What We Believe:
We believe that sound doctrine is important because it leads us into a proper relationship with God and others. Jesus made it clear that we will be judged on the basis of having a right relationship with God (Matt. 7:21-23) and on what we have done to serve others (Matt. 25:34-46).
This statement briefly addresses what we believe are the essential core values of Meadowridge Community Baptist Church. A more complete discussion of these and other doctrines can be found in such historic Baptist confessions of faith as the following: the New Hampshire Confession(1833) and the Statement of the Baptist Faith and Message of the Southern Baptist Convention (1925, 1963, 2000).*
The spirit of these words, written by Augustine of Hippo, is our desire at Meadowridge, "In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; in all things, love."
The Scriptures:
The Bible, a book with many human authors, is the divinely inspired Word of God. It is totally true and supremely authoritative in the life of the individual and of the church.
God:
There is one living and true God. He exists eternally with His various attributes in three Persons as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is the Sovereign Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of the Universe.
Jesus Christ:
Jesus is the Eternal Son of God who became man. Conceived in Mary the virgin by the Holy Spirit, He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, was a matchless teacher, died to pay for the sins of all human beings, was raised from the dead by the power of God, and ascended to the Father.
The Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit, or Spirit of God, reveals Christ, convicts of sin, and leads to repentance and faith. He indwells every believer, cultivates Christian character, gives spiritual gifts, supports the Christian life, and empowers the church for global evangelization.
Human Beings:
Human beings, both male and female, are created in the image of God and thus are of infinite value and have inherent need for a relationship with God. All human beings are separated from God by sin and need reconciliation through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Salvation:
Salvation is the unearned gift of God flowing out of God's love and grace. Human beings receive this gift through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation involves a changed lifestyle and pilgrimage toward Godlikeness on earth and eternal life with God both now and in heaven.
We affirm the ability of every believer under the lordship of Jesus Christ and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit to read and understand the Bible without human control. We affirm that the Bible is best understood in community; that is to say, our personal interpretations of the Bible should be balanced with the interpretations of other believers. We affirm that the Bible itself stands in authority over all confessions of faith. We affirm that the Bible does not contradict itself, and unclear passages should be interpreted by those that are clear and in light of the whole of the Scriptures.
